AES (Advanced Electronic Signature)
AES (Advanced Electronic Signature) is a security level for e-signatures that meets specific requirements under the eIDAS Regulation to ensure the identity of the signer and the integrity of the document. It must be uniquely linked to the signer and created using data that the signer has under their sole control.
What is AES?
For a signature to be classified as AES, the technology must be able to detect whether the document has been changed after signing. Formify uses AES as its standard in order to offer a balance between strong security and a smooth user experience. This is often achieved through strong authentication, such as BankID in Sweden or international verification through passport scanning and video selfie.
Why AES matters
AES provides significantly stronger legal protection than SES. It is the recommended level for business-critical agreements such as NDAs, employment contracts, and rental agreements, where it is important to prove who signed and that the agreement remains intact.
FAQ
What is required for a signature to qualify as AES?
An AES must be uniquely linked to the signer, enable reliable identification, be created using data under the signer’s sole control, and be linked to the document in such a way that any later changes can be detected.
How does Formify verify an AES signature?
Formify ensures AES-level compliance by integrating strong authentication directly into the signing flow, such as BankID in the Nordics or international identity verification through passport scanning and video selfie.
Why is AES the standard for most businesses?
AES offers an optimal balance between legal security and ease of use, providing sufficient evidentiary strength for the vast majority of business agreements such as NDAs, purchase agreements, and employment contracts.
