Formify launches an EU setup for e-signing: AI only with Mistral in Europe
Formify's new EU setup lets customers run AI only with Mistral through its EU endpoint and invite signers by SMS instead of WhatsApp. Documents are already stored with AWS in the EU for every account. Here is what the setup covers, what it does not cover yet, and how to check where your data goes.

Formify has launched an EU setup for its e-signing platform. Customers can choose to run AI only with the European AI model Mistral through its EU endpoint, and invite signers by SMS instead of WhatsApp. EU storage already applies to every account. This post explains what the setup covers, what is still to come, and how to check where your data goes with any e-signing provider.
What the EU setup is
The EU setup is a set of options in the account settings, and the customer decides which ones to turn on. Two options are new:
- AI only with Mistral in Europe. With the EU setup on, Formify's AI features run on the European AI model Mistral through its EU endpoint.
- Invitations by SMS instead of WhatsApp. An administrator can switch off WhatsApp and invite signers by SMS, sent from Sweden. Email invitations remain the default.
Formify's AI features are optional, and signing works without them. Formify's AI providers are not allowed to use customer data to train their general-purpose models.
"Where does my data go? That's the question you should ask every software provider. With us, you decide. Turn on the EU setup and the AI runs on Mistral in Europe. Don't want WhatsApp? Switch it off and invite by SMS. Your documents are stored in the EU either way," said David Nordin, founder and CEO of Formify.
"Why is it an option? Not everyone needs it. Turn on what you need. Switch off what you don't use."
Where documents are stored
EU storage is not part of the optional setup. It already applies to every account.
- Documents are stored with Amazon Web Services in the EU, with Stockholm as the primary region and Germany and Ireland as secondary regions.
- Application servers and the database are hosted in Sweden.
- Section 9 of Formify's Terms & Conditions is the data processing agreement under the GDPR.
What is not in the EU setup yet
The AI assistant that can be attached to documents sent for signing is not yet part of the EU setup. That is planned for later in 2026.
Customers who send contracts from ChatGPT or Claude through Formify's MCP server should also know where the line goes. Formify stores the contracts in the EU under its data processing agreement. Whatever the AI reads is handled by the AI provider, under the customer's own agreement with that provider.
How signatures are verified and sealed
Signers verify their identity with a passport scan and a video selfie, which gives an Advanced Electronic Signature (AES) under eIDAS, the EU regulation on electronic signatures.
Every Formify document is sealed with a qualified certificate from Intesi Group in Italy, a trust service provider on the EU Trusted List. Anyone can verify the sealed PDF, without using Formify.
One check to run on any provider
Formify's advice holds whichever provider a business picks: check that the certificates come from a qualified trust service provider on the EU Trusted List. A signature that can be validated against the list can be checked technically in another EU country.
With the EU setup, Formify wants businesses in Europe to use AI for their paperwork and still know where their data is. More details: formify.eu/eu-e-signature.
